A 500 lb Black Marlin pulled over and sank a sport-fishing boat, The Abundancia , a 37ft. Strike manufactured boat, in the Gulf of Panama recently.
This rather aggressive Marlin struck the bait rapidly, unleashing a chain of events that would spell disaster for the fishing vessel! The captain attempting to reverse the boat slipped, jamming the boat in full throttle reverse, flooding the deck and causing the boat to list and sink.
The Black Marlin is often considered impetuous and short-tempered
The Black Marlin is considered by many as the biggest prize of all Marlin. Often these sailfish can weigh in at whopping 1500 pounds! More aggressive than the Blue, or the Striped Marlin, these fish travel in warm currents, and feed on mackerel, tuna, and even squid.
The Marlin is highly migratory, and sometimes will travel several thousand miles. Black Marlin can be found in the Atlantic, Mediterranean, Indian and Australian Ocean areas, and it is not uncommon for a Marlin to accumulate 12,000 miles of migration in a calendar year.
