Stephen Rampersad a fire fighter from Milton, Florida, along with some friends were celebrating his wife Christin’s birthday the best day a Floridian angler knows how: a deep sea fishing trip! Though the day was all about Christin, it was Stephen who seems to have the most ‘write home worthy’ story to tell. The group was out to sea when suddenly Stephen got a bite, and so began the struggle, a struggle worthy of only one fish in these waters: the famed Atlantic Goliath Grouper!
The fight was a difficult one and was reaching its climax when suddenly things took a dangerous turn…
Out of nowhere the Goliath Grouper in a tour de force tugged hard in a line and pulled Stephen overboard almost completely submerging him in the salty waters of the Atlantic. Luckily for him, his friend was there to pull him back in, but the firefighter was in no rush to quit hauling in his catch. Known to grow up to 8 feet long, with an average weight of around 800 pounds, Stephen was lucky that this beast only came in at around 450 pounds.
Who knows what would of happened when The Grouper who was just as stubborn as his angling rival attempted to pull Stephen in two more times!
This monster was giving it all he had, and you can guarantee that Stephen’s pole was bending to its limit, but nothing would deter the fire fighter. After demonstrating what is surely an Iron Grip Stephen succeeded in defeating the Goliath Grouper, and came home with one hell of a story to tell!
