They say persistence is key, but this guy really went over the top!
Have you ever had “The Big One” hooked, only to lose it in the end? It’s an all too familiar feeling for Riccardo Peri of Italy. Returning to the same spot for 4 weeks, Peri was hell bent on catching the one that kept getting away. Afraid of losing yet another great catch, Peri insisted on doing anything possible to land the scaly giant.
I lost 4-5 very big fish but finally i got the one!!”
Once he found himself in the water, Peri decided his best strategy was to swim away from the coral under him, dragging the fish along with him.
Talk about being one with the ocean!
That’s definitely a risky strategy, but the pay off was well worth it. Having dragged the fish away, it eventually came up to sea level to become acquainted with his captor. The excitement on Riccardo’s face could be seen from a mile away as he posed for numerous pictures with his prize. After having the satisfaction of finally landing “The Big One”, he released the behemoth so that it could live to be caught another day!
The satisfaction [of] catching these fish in this way is something that cannot be described!”
