This is just one of those things, where it’s just too strange to not be true! It’s a good thing we don’t just have to hear about this in story form and decide whether or not it actually happened because without this video, we’d say there’s a snow balls chance in hell of this sort of thing happening!
Nicholas Colangelo, Fred Christensen, and Luke Wholey decided to take themselves a nice winter ice fishing trip just a few hours north of their homes in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, but they didn’t realize exactly what they’d be finding under the ice.
Nicholas was on camera duty as his friend Fred got something on the line. Excited, Fred began his struggle to reel his catch in, hoping for a spectacular fish! After a short battle his catch gave in, and was ready to be pulled out of their freshly cut fishing hole…
My jaw hit the floor when it came out of the ice hole,” Colangelo told Pittsburgh’s local KDKA-TV
However, there was no fish at the end of the line, it was instead a bird! That’s right, you’re not seeing things, and you read correctly, these guys some how managed to hook a Red-breasted Meganser duck under the ice!
Megansers common to Pennsylvania rivers and lakes are diving birds who generally can remain submerged for roughly 5 minutes!
Thankfully the friends were able to pull the duck out, and successfully remove the hook and line, and the duck was able to resume life as normal.
